Editor's Notes
The Water Cream arrives as a pale blue gel that melts into skin on contact, leaving behind moisture but no residue or shine. It's formulated around Japanese wild rose, which helps control oil, and a trio of green tea, rice, and algae extracts that Tatcha calls its Hadasei-3 complex. The texture is what sets it apart: genuinely weightless, absorbing fast enough that you can apply makeup or sunscreen within seconds.
This works best for people whose skin gets greasy by midday or who find traditional creams too occlusive. It layers well under other products and doesn't pill. The tradeoff is that very dry skin types may find it insufficient on its own, especially in winter. If your skin leans oily or you live in humid climates, though, this delivers the hydration you need without the film you don't.
The jar packaging means you'll need clean hands or a spatula to keep it sanitary. At this price point, it's a considered purchase, but the formula is concentrated enough that a little spreads easily across the face and neck.
