Editor's Notes
The Clifton 9 is HOKA's go-to neutral running shoe, built on a full-compression EVA midsole that delivers the brand's characteristic plush ride. It's a daily trainer in the truest sense: light enough for tempo runs, cushioned enough for recovery days, and durable enough to handle high weekly mileage without breaking down. The engineered mesh upper breathes well and the early-stage Meta-Rocker geometry encourages a smooth heel-to-toe transition, which makes it particularly appealing for midfoot and heel strikers.
This is the shoe for runners who want serious cushioning but don't want to feel like they're running on marshmallows. The foam is soft on landing but responsive enough that you're not fighting the platform on faster efforts. The tradeoff is minimal ground feel, so if you prefer a more connected, lower-profile ride, this won't be your match. But for pavement pounders putting in consistent volume, especially those transitioning from firmer shoes or managing joint sensitivity, the Clifton 9 earns its spot in the rotation as a workhorse that actually feels good mile after mile.
